Not like that it didn't! Dude, I read about it in the paper under the heading "Dumbass kid nearly burns himself to death." I assume the voyeur spying did happen, but it was a tiny grease fire in her kitchen. She takes a towel and tries to stop the fire, but accidentally knocks the pan onto the ground and the carpet catches fire. SHE calls the fire department and is heading to the backyard when she notices that some dumbass kid has snuck into her house and is now trapped by the fire and is unconscious from breathing in the fumes.
